This reception desk, matching waiting area tables and filing cabinet (not shown) were designed and supplied
as part of a complete refurbishment of the headquarters of the General Dental Council in London. The
combination of the maple and cherry was chosen to fit in with the plan for the new entry area which
called for maple wall panels and pink granite for the floor. Consequently, the top of the desk was made in
maple and the panels are cherry as a contrast to the walls. The maple top is offset by a single
stringing line of cherry around the edge.
The smaller tables pick up several of the details of the reception desk, but reverse the timbers, so
that the main wood is cherry with the inlay lines and corner motif being maple.
The rather complicated curvature of the reception desk was achieved by making three separate units
which bolted together on site, thus making construction and consequent installation much more easy.
