This table was made in 1997 as a result of a collaboration with Lee Evans
de Moubray (Architects), Canterbury. The brief called for a conference table to seat a maximum
of twenty six people which could be altered in size when necessary to seat a smaller number of
people. As the picture shows, this was accomplished using a rather complicated arrangement of
sliding frames nested within one another and pairs of matching removable leaves.
This results in a very versatile conference table capable of seating anything from twelve to
twenty six people
It is made from Oak throughout, with the top made up of veneered MDF panels edged with solid Oak.
The inlay details, made from maple and meranti, are evenly spaced around the perimeter of the table
and indicate each seating place. The legs are octagonal in cross section and have a maple line
running down the edges of each face. They are also individually adjustable for height as the nature
of the extension mechanism requires that the nested frames are kept very accurately in line.
