The client for these pieces desired a bed similar in feel to the traditional French sleigh bed but
without the visual weight often associated with them, so the bed here has a foot board half
the height of the head and the whole is kept clear of the floor by corner posts, rather than
having no space underneath.
The shaping of the curves on the posts was also done so as to have a more modern feel, rather than the
excessively heavy curves of the traditional style.
A simpler style was adopted for the chests of drawers while still retaining some of the moulding details
used on the bed. The drawers were all hand dovetailed with oak fronts and chestnut sides
and individually fitted.
