A wardrobe designed for a client who was very enthusiastic about the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh
the Scottish architect and designer from the late 19th/early 20th centuries. It takes many
elements from his work, notably the plain, tall vertical panels and the square stained glass motif
on the doors which was also used on the hand made door plates, while the large overhang on the top moulding
comes more from the American Arts & Crafts tradition.
The size of this piece meant that questions of access to the bedroom were quite important, so it
was made in a knock down form. All the side pieces of the wardrobe slot together and are held in position by the
base and top assemblies which are locked in place by sliding wedges on the inside as shown in the
picture.
